Why Americans Will Always Love Football and Always Be Indifferent to Soccer
Soccer is an extremely popular sport worldwide, most notably in Spain, England and Italy, yet it has yet to garner much attention in the States. Even megastar David Beckham moving to the United States to join the Los Angeles Galaxy team has done little to change the public perception and enthusiasm over soccer. Let’s just face it, American’s will always cling to their love of football (basketball and baseball too) and they will always be indifferent (or hate) soccer. The top four reasons for this are listed below.
- Soccer fans are born not made. Americans grow up watching football, baseball and basketball. It’s engrained in us from a young age and in effect it’s become a major part of our cultural identity which is passed down through the generations.
- Soccer isn’t big on cheerleaders. As stupid as it may be, Americans do love their perky, peppy cheerleaders. They’re fit, attractive and they dance around in little to nothing and pervy, sex deprived American men adore them for it.
- Soccer doesn’t have many breaks and American’s love food and have short attention spans. Football is constantly stopping, allowing American sports enthusiasts to get up and grab a sandwich, some chips and dip, an ice cold beer and maybe play a hand at the poker table. Soccer seems to go on and on, making the eyes strain and the stomach growl.
- Soccer is boring to watch. Yes I said it, it’s boring. Who wants to watch a bunch of men run back and forth for hours? Nothing really happens, other than an impressive display of cardiovascular endurance.
