Why do European teams have an overwhelming large amount of advertisements on their jersey's?
Not just with hockey but soccer(futball) too. In the states just the teams logo and players name and number but across the pond it can be hard to find the team logo at times, it is more like company vs company.
Europe:

In football (soccer) the reason is that teams have sponsors that provide them with a ton of the funding necessary to field their teams... it really takes the place of commercials since there are no commercial breaks (with the exception of half time)... Many of the European hockey leagues also do not have nearly the number of commercial breaks we do, which would also be my guess as to why.
it's interesting since when i watch european broadcasts they advertise on the field (much like we do) and on the jerseys, but that's about it... here, we advertise everywhere else (now lets go to our toyota power play....)
