Burning calories by running?? * POINTS?
Okay today I ran on the treadmill for 15 minutes, every 5 minutes I increased the speed by .2 mph. At the end of the 15 minutes I had burned 182 calories.
Keep in mind, I am trying to lose weight, I weigh 175 lbs and I am 5' feet 11 inches.
Should I be running for more time? Is 180 calories bad/Should I be losing more calories?
THANKS!
FIRST GOOD ANSWER GETS POINTS
Yes you should be running for more time because our body only starts burning stored fats after 20 minutes. Anytime before 20 minutes, the body is using whatever energy it has and not from the stored reserves, which means you don't burn any existing fat.
Try running for 40 minutes at a time. Don't go too fast, go at a pace you are comfortable with... I think an average of 5 miles per hour is comfortable. If you want to increase the speed just to jot your heart rate a little, increase it by .5mph every 10 minutes, run for two minutes at that pace then bring it back down to 5mph.
Be sure to stretch and drink plenty of water before and after the run.
